Sausalito is the southern most town in Marin. Sausalito is spanish for little willows, or saucelitos, which grows along its shores. In the 1800s, the area was know as Whaler's Harbor, sailors and whalers flocked to the port for its safe harbor, saloons, bordellos and gaming houses. After incorporation in 1893, the town became a major ferry and railway center, and then a shipyard during world war II. marin county real estate sausalito listings

Incorporated in 1916, Corte Madera is best known today for the two shopping malls that line the freeway. But the town, translated as "cut wood" in Spanish, has much more going for it than that. Besides boasting a 22-acre park with tennis courts, two playgrounds, and recreation equipment. the town also has an historic village square and numerous biking paths. the amenities as well as the area's central location, moderate home prices and taxes, friendly neighborhoods, and a good commute, all help make Corte Madera a popular place to live. East Corte Madedra is flat , mostly ranch-style home area, some homes back up on Ring Mountain , an ancient Miwok site which is now public open space. These homes have nice views. Tamalpais Drive follows the west side of town up past the recreation center and City Hall to the base of Christmas Tree hill. Corte Madera has about 4,000 dwellings in town. If developer Charles Wright's wife knew her plants, this picturesque Central Marin town would be called Lupine. Mrs. Wright, whose husband hoped to incorporate the town at the turn of the century, admired the fields of what she thought were larkspur plants blooming near her new home, and named the village Larkspur. Most of the town lies inland, but the part that fronts the water is home to the county's largest ferry terminal, as well as a huge metal sculpture of Sir Francis Drake. Daily regular express ferry trips to San Francisco makes living in Larkspur a quick commute to The City. Larkspur shares schools and a police department with Corte Madera togeather they make up the Twin Cities Service District. Neighboring towns of Kentfield and Greenbrae have their own school district, but share utilities and many public services with Larkspur. There are about 6,000 housing units with half being single family homes and half being apartments, townhomes and condominiums. Greenbrae and Kentfield, thought of as separate towns, are actually unincorporated areas of Larkspur. Greenbrae is located above Bon Air Shopping Center off of Sir Francis Drake Blvd. and most homes enjoy fantastic views of Mt Tam and the Bay. Kentfield enjoys large estate home sites and excellent schools. Larkspur real estate listings sausalito real estate listings tiburon

Tiny Ross is tuched in between San Anselmo and Kentfild in the middle of Central Marin's Ross Valley. The town takes its name from James Ross, a Scotsman who came to California during the Gold Rush , made a fortune selling wine in San Francisco, and bought the tract of land where the town now stands in 1857. Amoung the prominent institutions in town is the Marin Art and Garden Center, a hub for a variety of non-profit groups. The small downtown, bordering the soccer fields of Ross School, has a grocery store, post office, butcher, florist and a few small cafes. Ross features some of the oldest and most exclusive estates in the county, both in the hills and along Shady Lane, the tree lined road that connects it to neighboring San Anselmo. Housing Prices are expensive in this exclusive area. marin county homes for sale in marin county homes for sale in marin county real estate listings, information.

San Anselmo, once marin county's railroad hub, is larger than many of its neighbors, but retains a small-town charm. The self-proclaimed "Antiques Capital of Northern California", San Anselmo has about 130 antique dealers, as well as bookstores, boutiques, and restaurants along San Anselmo Avenue . Homes are older and smaller than those in nearby Ross. Larger lots grace some hill areas. Five roads converge through the The Hub, with Sir Francis Drake Blvd. and The Miracle Mile jamming from traffic during rush hours. San Anselmo offers mid-range housing prices. San Anselmo has about 6,000 housing units with 80 percent being single family homes. San Anselmo real estate listings san anselmo homes for sale tiburon mls

San Rafael became Marin 's first city in 1874. San Rafael's roots can be traced to December 1817, when Franciscans founded Mission San Rafael Archangel at the foot of San Rafael Hill, the 20th of California's 21 missions. A replica of the mission stands at St. Raphaell's Church. More than 55,000 residents make thier home in the county seat, the commercial, cultural and governmental center of marin. Just 17 miles north of San Francisco and surrounded by wooded, grassy hillsides and teh bay, about one-third of the city's l7 square miles is open space. East of the Marin County Civic Center, Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural enigma, is China Camp State Park, a former shrimp fishing village that now offers recreational opportunities, as does the nearby McNear's Beach Park. Peacock Gap, among San Rafael's upscale neighborhoods, and area of gracious homes, many with views of San Rafael Bay, is among my favorite areas in marin to live. The heart of the city lies west of Highway 101, where scores of retail shops and restaurants line downtown streets, Building and revitalization plans will add new sparkle to the city over the next few years. In my opinion, San Rafael's "American Pie" downtown is just right! Not to big, not too small. There are about 25,000 housing units . Half are single family homes and half are townhomes, apartments, or condominiums.
Terra Linda just north of San Rafael, is within San Rafael City Limits. Terra Linda has an excellent school district! Most homes in Terra linda were built by Eichler or Alliance in early 1960's. for sale san rafael real estate san rafael homes for sale
